HELLO
Hey, welcome, it’s nice to be here with you. This is a newsletter where I explore themes of permission and attention through my experience in the world and the romantic comedy genre.
In September I read “I Kissed Shara Wheeler” by Casey McQuiston. The character of Shara Wheeler pays close attention to which behaviors are rewarded by her parents and her church and creates an elaborate persona (described as a Regina George but kind, generous and polite) to succeed and survive in her environment. She becomes a caricature version of the adults’ vision of a perfect girl. The book chronicles the combustion of this story-self in a delightful comic mystery rom-com.
THE LUNCH LINE
Ding Dong! Call my lunch line and I will serenade you with a SINGING recap of a lunch that I ate while I play the PIANO?! Wow you are not going to want to miss this one. It doesn’t even ring folks, it just goes straight to voicemail.
